Webcams implemented on Croatia Map

That idea was here for a long time and finally we took some time to do it. In Croatia there is about 70 web cams. Maybe the most valuable web cams are traffic web cams; in ferryboat ports, border entrances, highways.. That web cams are really very useful to all who are planning some trips and holidays in Croatia. So we first implemented those traffic web cams on the map but also bellow the map as featured content.
For that we use webcams.travel community resources…

When you are preparing for traveling it is nice to see if there is a long line for a ferryboat for one of the Croatian island or what is the traffic situation on the border or highway. In a next few days we are going to implement some more tourist web cams on the map ….

SEO really works :)

Our problem on Croatia Map was that almost all the data was hidden in javascript code on the map. The search engines couldn’t index most of the data presented in the “clouds” on the map.  So, we decided to change that and create the pages for each object shown on the map.

For example every hotel, camp or private accomodation now has his own page with data and links. We create new sitemap and provide Google with information where to find those pages… and after few days Google starts indexing… great.

Now, we expect that many people who are looking for some relevant information about Croatia will find our pages listed in search engines results….  :)

Free for Private accomodation owners

When you have a startup the main problem is, of course, money. If you try to get money from everyone you will not get enough content… that means less visitors, less advertisers…and if you offer all for free you are finished sooner or later. So, in the begining we try to get some money from the Private accommodation owners. (Thank you all for supporting us this way! )

Now, we decide to offer FREE service for Private accommodation owners. (That don’t mean that we won on the lottery :)). We hope that many Private accomodation owners will recognize this opportunity.

Some numbers for 2008

Well, I am looking at Croatia Map Google Analytics account right now… so I decide to share some numbers and other stuff … maybe because I didn’t expect results like this at all… specially not after first year of the site :) …

This are unique visitors of course. But, that second number is my favorite :) …. surfers from 135 countries visited Croatia Map in 2008 …
Also, surfers found us by using more then 12.000 keywords … but most of the year we had only one page and most of our data is hidden in javascript!

Some interesting trends:

  • IE is still favorite browser but firefox is much stronger than 6 months ago…
  • Maybe the biggest change is variety of screen resolution of our visitors…. 1024×768 is still the no.1 but not for long…

Some announcements for 2009.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Just for you to know that we are working as hard as Santa Claus these days. Some of those efforts will be visible at the beginning of 2009. There will be some great content improvements and other changes. Also we will improve the visibility of all content for Search Engines. As you can see, most of the data on Croatia Map are in javascript and therefore hidden for Search Engines.

Also there is a rumor that Croatia Map will announce some cool mobile services in 2009. :)
That’s it for now…

We Wish You all the Best in 2009.
